α-Ecdysone is a prohormone of 20-hydroxy ecdysone , an insect-molting, ecdysteroid hormone. The insect neurohormone, prothoracicotropic hormone, stimulates prothoracic glands to release α-ecdysone, which is then rapidly converted to its active metabolite, 20-hydroxy ecdysone.
